Manager Breeding Projects Organic Market

Position in the organisation

Reports to the General Director of Vitalis.

Purpose of the position

Successful management of new and running breeding projects in the world-wide Enza Zaden R&D organization for the organic market.

Summary of responsibilities

  1. Formulate specific breeding goals for the organic market in cooperation with the world-wide Enza Zaden R&D organization and the Vitalis management team. 
  2. Initiate and/or monitor such breeding projects in contact with the Crop Research Directors (CRD’s) of Enza Zaden.


Brief description of responsibilities and tasks

  1. Drawing up and adjusting the Vitalis breeding policy plan
    • Draw up a breeding policy plan as input to the strategic plan, together with the Vitalis Management Team.
    • Formulate breeding goals get them accepted within Enza Zaden R&D in existing or new breeding projects and monitor progress in time.
    • Have knowledge of new ideas on biotechnology and new breeding techniques, specifically for the organic horticulture.
    • Acquire knowledge through literature studies, grower visits, symposia and congresses as input for the Vitalis R&D projects.
    • Represent Vitalis externally at symposia and congresses.
  2. Monitor Vitalis R&D projects
    • Regularly consult with the CRD’s on the progress of the ongoing projects.
    • If desired, spread these consultations also to the responsible breeder or phytopathology researcher.
    • At least 2 times per year a progress report to the MT of Vitalis.


Profile Education/Knowledge

At least higher professional education (BSc) working and thinking skills. Has thorough knowledge of plant breeding, modern breeding methods and phytopathology, is well acquainted with different organic cultivation techniques and features organic market-oriented knowledge. Has at least five years relevant work experience.



Excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing), in the local language as well as in English. Has proven project management skills. Is creative, works systematically and has a good dose of perseverance and resilience!



Performs the position independent, under responsibility of the Director of Vitalis.



Maintains many internal and external contacts.


Working conditions

Can perform under different climatic conditions world-wide. Is prepared to travel frequently, both within the country and abroad.
